By pitching eight shutout innings last night in a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians, Daisuke Matsuzaka continued a remarkable run of road dominance for the Boston Red Sox pitching staff. In the last nine games away from Fenway Park, the Sox pitching staff has an incredibly low 0.70 ERA and, more importantly, is 8-0. Terry Francona, Boston’s manager, commented on the streak: “The more consistent guys are, the better. We didn’t do much offensively tonight, but the way [Matsuzaka] was pitching, you get one, one, one, one, it ends up being a good night.”
Dice-K sprinkled four hits (all singles) over his eight innings to earn his 150th career victory (108 were earned in Japan).
Tim Wakefield takes his 1-4 record (6.02 ERA) to the mound tonight in the second of four at Jacobs Field.
