I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but I grew up in a fairly traditional Italian household. You know the drill – pasta at least three nights a week, church on Sunday morning, no meat on Friday during Lent, and a mother who was both skilled in filling your belly and being able to guilt trip you into doing anything she wanted you to do. All of our family activities involved some kind of Italian food – lasagna, meatballs and sausage, stuffed shells, etc. I was never really exposed to foods from other cultures – our family friends were mostly Italian or so Americanized that their menus had lost any major ethnic influence.

So, way back at the beginning of September, I posted about how busy I was and how I had a ton of stuff going on in my life. Not much has changed. My family is still nuts – I swear my girls get faster by the day – and work is still a bear. But, it’s all good. My girls are SUPER fun! My wife and I are planning a week long vacation, something we haven’t done in about four years, and work is always interesting.
But, all that excitement means that I’ve been neglecting this place. Not to fear though. While I haven’t been posting, I’ve been thinking about this blog a lot and where I want to go with it. The food part of it is great and I expect to continue on with some recipes as well as chronicling my adventures in the kitchen and on the grill / smoker. I’ve also identified a few things I want to write about in the future. Here’s just a little insight into what’s coming this way in the next few months:
- A multi-part series on how I’ve implemented a GTD-ish approach to life
- 3-Part series on travel guidance based upon everything I’ve learned in the last few months
- Product reviews for some cooking equipment
- Outline some potential modifications I plan on doing to my smoker
- Contemplations over my next smoker
- Discussions about some software I’m using and how they are best suited to my needs
- PS3 or Xbox – what should I buy?
- Any relevant sports discussions that come up
I hope you all stick around for the ride. It’s sure to be fun!

I know you’re all interested in that last part, but we’ll get to it in a minute. About a month ago, I wrote about how I wanted to post 2-3 quality posts per week. And, for about a week or so, I did great on that goal. Then life hit. Work has gotten stressful. I’m closing in on the end of a very important project. I’ve been pulling 11-12 hour days a few times a week. At the end of this month, I’ll be travelling out to the Southwest for roughly a week. It should be the ultimate, successful conclusion of a lot of hard work.
Add all that to the daily life of a married guy with twin one-year old girls and a working wife and you’ve got some stressful times. I’ll be spending a lot of time with the in-laws over the next week. My sister-in-law is getting married this weekend and then the Jewish holidays are the next weekend. Being the good husband that I am (nothing wrong with a little self-promotion here 😉 ), I’ll be spending all this time with the family. That should actually be pretty fun. The family I married into is really a good group of people – crazy at times, but the same can be said about my immediate family. I’m sure it should help me come up with a few post ideas.
OK, now on to the good stuff – thoughts about pimping my kids. Here’s what I’m talking about. My company is in a shutdown this week. Despite this fact, I am working due to the project I mentioned above. Child care schedules woes (everyone is busy) caused me to take Wednesday and Thursday off to take care of the girls. I love spending time with my girls, but I am not made to be a Mr. Mom. That being said, I need to find stuff to do with them. So, yesterday, I took them out to run some errands. I didn’t think much of it until I realized that every cute girl I saw (and even some of the not-so-cute ones) were smiling and ‘awwwing’ at me.
Apparently the sight of a guy pushing around a stroller with twin girls in it is some kind of aphrodisiac. That’s where the thoughts of pimping them out came to me. Now, the term ‘pimping’ sounds bad. It has all kinds of sexual connotations that I don’t want anywhere near my girls. But, here’s where I was going: what if I let my single friends take the girls for and afternoon? They’d get to walk around and have an immediate conversation starter. And, honestly, how well would the conversation go if they were explain they were just babysitting for a friend and they did it all the time? Come on – it’s better than a puppy!
I know, I probably sound like a horrible Dad, but, really, who hasn’t thought about this type of thing? And, for anyone who thinks I’m serious, thanks for reading…please don’t come back if you can’t sense sarcasm at its best!
