Hold the Brooms: Sox Can’t Complete Sweep

Boston Red SoxDespite their best efforts, the Boston Red Sox couldn’t complete the sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies. On a day when Tim Wakefield’s knuckeball just wasn’t dancing the way is sometimes does, the Sox couldn’t produce the myriad of runs they had the previous two days. Cole Hamels pitched seven strong innings for the Phils, scattering five hits and two walks while only giving up one run. He was also able to strikeout eight Sox players. Wakefield, on the other hand, gave up seven hits and one walk while being responsible for four runs in 7-1/3 innings. The Sox outfield phenom (is two games too early to use that phrase? Probably…) Daniel Nava when 2-4 with an RBI to keep his hot streak alive.

The Sox are off today (14-Jun) but return to action tomorrow at Fenway Park against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Clay Bucholz will take his 8-4 record and 2.52 ERA to the mound against Ian Kennedy (3-3, 3.17) when the two teams meet.
